Glasson Stone Lodge is an impressive house newly built from Irish
limestone which blends well with the old 18th century houses in
the village.
Owned and managed by Carmel and Oliver O'Neill this house offers
cleanliness, cosiness and exquisite interior design - while on the
outside, private parking and a beautifully developed garden.
The
quaint village of Glasson which is replete with old world charm,
is located near the eastern banks of Lough Ree. Also known as the
"Village of Roses" it is at its best in summer with roses in bloom
but even in winter it has hostelries where one can spend many a
happy hour. Within walking distance are three award-winning restaurants.
Glasson
is also a major player in Westmeath's celebrated "Goldsmith Country"
and was the subject of Oliver Goldsmith's poem "The Deserted Village".
Less than 2 miles from Glasson at Kilkenny West is a hill regarded
as the geographical centre of Ireland and topped by a round domed
tower - known as the Pinnacle - built in 1769.
Glasson is situated close to Lough Ree which is a haven for fishing,
boating and sailing, in fact Lough Ree Yacht Club founded in 1770
is the second oldest yacht club in the world.
There is something for everyone on the established walks around
Glasson, whether you simply want to enjoy the beauty of nature or
find subjects for photography you will not be disappointed. There
is an ample scope for the artist, the antiquarian or the wild flower
enthusiast to explore the lakeshore and be well rewarded for time
spent.
